Our strength is in our approach to each customer. We see each person as someone who has unique ideas and requirements… needing a potentially unique solution that will meet their needs and fit within their budget. We know that design is not a simple equation, but a continuous process. As the customer learns more about what is possible, their needs and therefore the design become more refined and individual. There is no “cookie cutter” approach.
When we design a structure, we usually kick the process off with a questionnaire. This document may take some time to complete, but often leads to a deeper understanding of needs for both customer and designer.

Transitions
Whether for office, studio, or meditation room, we have found that the creation of a transitional space works wonders in helping people get into the mood. Many people don’t realize how important their transitions are… the drive to work, that cup of tea before meditation… until the pattern is interrupted. We work to help people understand what sort of transition they might need, then build it into the fabric of their new environment.
Flow
People go through certain flows of activity in their working or creative life… and if these activities are hampered by the lack of equipment, lack of space, or simply poor layout, then work, play or artistic results suffer.
We develop design based first on the activity “flows” or processes which are required in the space. Having great experience in the corporate world, we deeply understand the sorts of processes that a home office requires… and we listen carefully to each artist so that we may understand their individual processes. Very often we help people understand their own processes through our collection of “best practices”.
Light & View
There is no single most important feature to a home, work space, studio, or meditation room than the light that floods that space. We are strong believers in the use of natural light. Whenever possible we use the sun for passive solar heating as well, but as a minimum we position the windows in a space to maximize the sort of light that is required for the task at hand. Some artists prefer high northern light. Some people work best in the direct Southern rays of the sun, while others require only indirect, softer, light. Along with each source of light, of course, a view is possible. We try to position the views to take advantage of the best and most peaceful features on our customer’s property.
Sound & Connections
Each home office, each home studio, has a relationship with that home that goes beyond the simple working or creative environment. Very often people have children, pets, or other distractions at their home that cannot be completely blocked out. We help people understand the sorts of connections that they want with their homes, and develop strategies and compromises so that effective work, study or quiet time can still be achieved.
